It has been a while since i have written a blog as school has been quite busy. Since my last blog Theory and Practice of Leadership has had quite a bit of work to do. We have had to hand in an essay, and read chapters 4 and 5. The essay was a little bit difficult to come up with 3-4 body paragraph topics because my current personal definition of leadership is relatively narrow. It took quite alot of thought to come up with 3 different subjects but once i did the ideas flowed.
Chapters 4 and 5 were quite similar. Both chapters were about receiving and interpreting methods of communication. I found it interesting how much detail that can be found in a persons body language. The information about the differences between communicating between cultures was also quite eye opening. I have noticed many small differences in communication between different cultures, but never really though about it until it was pointed out.
Chapter 5 was also eye opening. I never knew there was so much thought that could go into listening. All the different methods such as attend, understand, evaluate, respond emphatically, and remembering. I can see how all of these may have a place in listening or communicating effectively, but this is a big list and it may be difficult to adjust to each person whom you may communicate with. Sometimes though depending on the person we are speaking with we do many of the listed listening techniques without telling our selves to do it.
